

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with David Tankersley and Dr. Rick Reaves officiating with burial to follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by his daughter Rita Burgess Greenwood and granddaughter Amy Greenwood both of Saks; great grandchildren, Madison Wagoner, Savannah and Bentlie Crowe of Saks and Layton Ellison of Alexandria; a special Niece, Vera Hietanen of Knoxville who came to be his main caregiver; a special nephew, Shane Burgess who was always there for him.
Gene is a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where he loved to attend Sunday School taught by David Tankersley, he worked at Lee Brass for 30 + years where he retired as a supervisor of the shipping, packing and testing department.
Gene was known as PawPaw to most who knew him and was loved by all. Never was there a more loving husband, father, grandfather or friend. He lived by the word of God to which he studied daily. He is leaving loving memories we will hold dear in which we will strive to honor in our daily lives.
