I was not aware of the loss of this lovely lady until today.  I remember Mrs. Schake with admiration and fondness, she was such a unique and special person.  The name Jewel suited her perfectly.  My sincere condolences to the entire family.  Much love to all.  Barb

I got to know Jewell when she visited Deb in Denver.  What a hoot!  When she moved to Dysprosium Street, I asked what that was and got quite the lengthy lesson in botany in her lovely, inimitable manner.  I am sure there is another cute little motor home awaiting at the gates

We were neighbors of Manford and Jewell in Montana when we moved there in 1981.   Cocoa, their cat, was pregnant and first moved in with us when we were living in a trailer, but then quickly decided the Schake house was much better digs.  We adopted two of the kittens from Cocoa's litter.

I remember many wonderful dinners cooked by Jewell, an abundant garden that was generously shared, and many afternoons spent playing Pinochle and drinking Jewell's home made wine.  Cleone and Jewell would get tipsy and learned to cheat at the bidding.  We had lots of giggles during these games.

Camping, hiking trips, and searching for wild berries (to make more wine, of course!) in the mountains of Montana were also things we enjoyed together.  

We remember Jewell as strong, intelligent and fearless, with a sharp tongue and a quick wit.  She and Manford were (and remain) wonderful friends and role models.  We loved them both, and this world is a better place because of their lives.

If I am half the woman you were I must be one awesome lady.  You were amazing right to the end.

Grandma,when we spoke on Mothers Day you sounded so happy that you got to spend time with some of your family.You started telling me a story about how you went camping when you were younger and got sick from drinking way to much.You said"im never doing that again" We have all said that but you actually meant it and did it. I thought, what an amazing woman to have such will and strength.Its very rare,just like you. I will miss you greatly.

Dear Grandma,
   You have touched so many people in your many years here with all of us.  I will always cherish the memories I have of spending time with you. We all will be lost without you, and can only hope to live life the way you did. Thank you for being such an inspiration to all of us. Auntie Jewell... you are missed! Death is bitter sweet cause it is sweet for you but bitter for us here without you. So happy that you are finally with the beautiful man you married. I have so many great summer memories staying at your house with the "big girls". I am so grateful and proud that you are my auntie, that I saw you quite a few times over the years and that you are at rest now. I continue to pray for your girls now as they mourn your passing.
