Born on August 24, 1940, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to Mario Bonetti and Mercedes Toribio, Aura lived a life defined by her charisma, her strength, her resilience, and unwavering love for all she knew and loved. She was a proud Dominican woman who carried her roots, culture, and spirit into every room she entered—always with grace, presence, and undeniable power.
Aura was the devoted mother of seven children—Cesar, Helen, John, Richard, Ayeska, Chantal, and Stephanie—who were her greatest pride and life’s work. She raised her family with strength, discipline, and boundless love, serving as both the backbone and the heartbeat of her home. She was, as many would say, “both the pants and the skirt,” in the home balancing strength and tenderness in a way only she could.
To know her was to love her. Known affectionately as “Mami” to her children and to so many others, she was truly everyone’s mother. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for those she loved—and even for those she had just met. Her door, her table, and her heart were always open.
She leaves behind a powerful and beautiful legacy through her 25 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, each a reflection of her strength, warmth, and enduring spirit.
Aura was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gilbert E. Moyers, her partner and “commander,” with whom she shared a life of presence, influence, and deep connection. She is also reunited with her brother, Camilo Bonetti. She is survived by her siblings, Anita Bonetti and Mario Bonetti, and a vast extended family who will continue to carry her legacy forward.
Known to many as “Doctora Bonetti,” Aura was a woman of remarkable strength and resilience. She faced life’s challenges—including Hodgkin’s lymphoma, two strokes and heart issues yet with courage and determination, never allowing adversity to define her. Instead, she rose above it, continuing to show up for her family and her community with unwavering commitment.
Aura was the anchor of her family—the reason everyone gathered, the force that kept generations connected. She was a woman who commanded respect and admiration wherever she went. No matter who you were—your title or your status—she treated everyone with the same respect, making each person feel truly seen, valued, and important.
She was elegance and warmth, beauty and strength. A former Miss Santo Domingo, Aura carried herself with poise and confidence, truly owning every room she walked into. She was the ultimate hostess—welcoming, generous, and unforgettable—always surrounded by those who admired and loved her.
Her home was filled with music—classical, merengue especially Juan Luis Guerra, Boyz II Men, Pavarotti, and even dembow—reflecting her vibrant and joyful spirit. She expressed her love through food and tradition, known for her unforgettable arroz con pollo, her healing chicken soup, and her cherished morning ritual of offering ponche to all who entered her home.
Above all, Aura showed up—for her family, her friends, and her community. She was caring, no-nonsense, deeply loving, and fiercely devoted. Her presence was a gift, and her absence will be profoundly felt.
She will be missed deeply, but her legacy will live on in the strength of her family, the love she gave so freely, and the countless lives she touched
