May 20, 1944 – November 24, 2025
Carolyn Jennings Medlicott left this world on November 24, 2025, closing a long and remarkable life lived with quiet strength, deep loyalty, and a brilliant sense of purpose. Born on May 20, 1944, she grew into a woman defined by dedication—to her work, to her family, and to the principles she held dear.
For many years, Carolyn devoted her talents to the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon, serving her country with professionalism and steadiness. She carried her responsibilities with grace, never seeking the spotlight but always earning respect. Her work reflected who she was: meticulous, committed, and guided by an unwavering sense of duty. She also endured one of the darkest days in our nation’s history—surviving the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon. With characteristic persistence and resilience, she returned to her work in the aftermath, refusing to let fear or tragedy define her. That quiet courage was the essence of who she was.
Carolyn’s greatest joy, however, was her family. She is survived by her brother, Kimbrough Jennings, and his wife Lisa; her sister Sandra Shreve and her husband Bill; and her sister Teresa Smith and her husband Van. The bonds between them were lifelong, shaped by shared history, laughter, and love.
She also leaves behind a devoted and far-reaching family of nephews, nieces, and their children, each of whom she cared for in her own quiet, loving way:
Courtney Jennings
Ursula Levitov and her husband Alexander, and their children Sophia and Jason
Jared Jennings and his wife Alex, and their daughter Olive
Amelia Jennings
Mathew Smith
Derek Smith and his wife Jessica, and their children Sawyer and Jolene
Nathan Smith and his wife Natalie, and their children Scarlett and Donnie
To each of them, Carolyn was a presence of tenderness and joy, someone who remembered birthdays, celebrated milestones, and showed up when it mattered. Her legacy rests not only in her accomplishments but in the countless ways she quietly supported those she loved.
Carolyn’s life was marked by integrity, intelligence, and a gentle spirit that asked for little and gave much. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, loved her, and walked alongside her during her journey on this earth.
May she now rest in peace, surrounded by the light she carried so faithfully in life.
If you would like to make a charitable donation in her name, as a survivor of 9/11, she supported the work that Tunnel to Towers does in supporting military and first responder heroes, the website is t2t.org. Another charity that she believed in was animal rescue, a local Florida rescue group that our family has had personal experience with is vocalforpets.org.
A Celebration of Life has been planned for Carolyn on January 11, 2026, from 1:00pm - 5:30pm. The address is:
