Iris met the love of her life, Marshall Holmes, while attending Florida State University — famously over a game of ping pong. They shared many devoted years of marriage until Marshall’s passing in 2021.
A gifted and creative soul, Iris was known for her love of crafting, especially sewing. She generously taught her children how to sew their own clothes, a skill that became part of her lasting legacy. She also loved tutoring kids in the community how to read. Faith was an important part of her life; she and her family were longtime members of Wekiva Springs Baptist Church and previously attended Northside Alliance Church.
Iris was preceded in death by her parents, her dear aunt; Mary Hubbard, her beloved husband, Marshall Holmes; and her brothers, Clifton and Leland Hubbard.
She is survived by her youngest brother; Drew Hubbard and her loving children: Melinda (Greg) Taylor, Myron Holmes, Carla (Al) Fernandez, Ronnie (Christine) Holmes, Brian (Janet Barriger) Holmes, and Sharon Hatch. She also leaves behind 15 cherished grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.
Iris will be remembered as a prayer warrior and for her creativity, devotion to family, quiet faith, and the many lives she touched with patience, kindness, and skillful hands.
