On December 13, 2015, Raymond Tai-Kook Chung passed peacefully at 8:41 pm at the Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Raymond was born in Seoul, Korea, on September 5, 1943, to a large family, as he was the tenth of what would eventually be eleven brothers and sisters. In the summer of 1967, he immigrated to the United States with his then fiancé, Lisa, eventually settling down with her in the Los Angeles area.
Raymond served his life in commitment to the Lord and the Lord's ministry. He served the Los Angeles Central Korean Seventh-day Adventist Church as a deacon, elder and associate pastor. Raymond was ordained as a minister by the Carolina Conference of Seventh-day Adventists on August 13th, 2011, and served as pastor of the Charlotte Korean Seventh-day Adventist Church until his retirement in 2014. From 1991 to 2001, Raymond also served as the program director for the Korean NEWSTART program at Weimar Institute in Weimar, California.
Raymond's attitude in life was of constant cheer. He believed in living in happiness and was a source of loyal friendship to many. He loved fishing in the ocean, traveling and enjoyed learning to play the saxophone.
Raymond is remembered as a loving husband for over forty-eight years, a devoted father, a beloved brother, a fond uncle and an adoring grandfather. Raymond T. Chung is survived by his wife, Lisa M. Chung, his three children, Michael K. Chung, Margaret K. Scarbrough and Sharon K. Chung, and his two grandsons, Matthew L. Scarbrough and Wesley O. Scarbrough.
