On December 19, 2011 our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away in Arcata, California after several decades of battling illnesses from diabetes to cancer. During her 25 year battle with cancer she always said that she would not let cancer beat her. She was correct. Although the cancer she had battled for so long had spread, it was her unbelievable heart that grew tired.
Charlsie Lou Vaughn was born December 10, 1942 in Glenwood, Arkansas. She lived in several states as a child, settling in California in 1949. She attended Stewart School in Arcata and graduated from Arcata High School in 1960. She went on to attend College of the Redwoods and Humboldt State University. She worked at several jobs over the years including manager of Hertz and Avis Car rentals at the Arcata Airport. She later found her niche in life as a mother and housewife.
She raised a disabled daughter, Lori Lynn Crook, who without Charlsie’s nurturing and love wouldn’t have survived many of her disabilities.
In July of 1972 she married Dennis Emmons, giving birth to her second child Chris in 1973. Throughout the majority of her life her focus was on raising and caring for family. Charlsie loved spending time with her family, whether it was gardening with the grandchildren or passing on information she had gathered on the family ancestry.
She is survived by her husband Dennis of McKinleyville, daughter Lori Crook of Eureka, son Chris and his wife Tara of Arcata and their children Morrgin and Colsen Emmons, brother Phillip Vaughn and his wife Anne of McKinleyville, sister Barbara Adams and her husband Bruce of Missouri, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Charlsie was preceded in death by her mother Mildred R. Vaughn and father Cletis L. Vaughn.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Paul’s Chapel at 1070 H St. in Arcata, California on December 30, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. We will forever remember your contagious smile and feel your ever loving presence within us. Love you Mimi girl.
Arrangements under the direction of Paul's Chapel, Arcata, CA.
