

Lucy was born December 11, 1938 in Ponta Delgada Flores Azores. She married her husband José on July 17, 1966 in Ponta Delgada San Miguel Azores and they immigrated to the United States on October 1, 1966 where they raised their family in Arcata, California.
She worked for Sunset Elementary School in the cafeteria and was an Avon Representative for 25 years; was a member of Avon’s Presidents Circle and Honor Society annually until her retirement due to her illness. She was also involved in many Portuguese societies serving at a State Officer level for S.P.R.S.I (LUSO), U.P.P.E.C and proudly as a Past First Lady of I.D.E.S. (PFSA)
She is survived by her loving husband José L. Valadão, her two adoring sons, David (Jennifer) and Donald (Dinisa), four grandchildren: Jordan, Janée, Alyssa and Justin.
She is also survived by her mother Conceicao Dias and three brothers and four sisters: Maria Inez Pimentel, Inez Paulino, José Dias, João Dias (Maria), Jaime Dias (Ana), Avelina Correia (Manuel) and Celina Dias-Pendexter (Lee). Brother and Sister-in-Laws: Sal Mateus (Linda), Maria Silva (Orlando), Inez Storr (Otto), Regina Goodrow (John) and Carmen Valadão together with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins residing in Portugal, Canada and the United States.
She is preceded in death by her father João Dias. Her family and faith meant everything to her.
The Rosary will be held at Paul’s Chapel on Friday April 27, 2012 at 7:00 pm. Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday April 28 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the charity of your choice.
