

Lawrence Emory Modlin, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, May 29, 2011 with his family by his side. He was the son of Emory Lee Modlin and Lola Shelley Modlin, who preceded him in death. He married Martha Branson Davis, with whom he shared 63 years of blessed marriage. He was born in the Fairfield community on September 7, 1923 and lived there throughout his life. He was a man of strong character and was respected and loved by the many whose lives he touched through the years. He was a farmer and a truck driver. He loved God, his family and his many friends with whom he shared his love of horses, square dancing, baseball and growing watermelons.
He was an active member of Fairfield United Methodist Church as long as his health allowed. He was chairman of the Cemetery Committee for 43 years and served with the Methodist Men. In recent years he saw his lifelong dream of a baseball field completed at Fairfield UMC.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gertrude Humphrey; brother in law, Earl Humphrey; niece, Margaret Humphrey Burns; brother in law, Carey Cable; nephew Delbert Cable and grandson, Emory Joseph Modlin.
Family who live to cherish his memory are wife Martha, son, Ralph Lawrence Modlin and his wife Sue Ellen Ridge Modlin; daughter Betsy Sink and her husband Dr. Michael Sink; grandchildren, Aaron Sink and his wife Kelly, Adam Modlin and his wife Stephanie and Meredith Sink Antley and her husband Chad; great grandchildren, Savanah Sampson, Haley and Wesley Modlin , sister, Allie Lee Cable, niece, Marie Cable Cowan, and nephew Melvin Humphrey.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 11:00 AM at Fairfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Jill Auman and Rev. Barry Lemons officiating. Family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the burial service in the Fairfield Cemetery.
