She was the eldest of ten siblings, born on August 11, 1947, to Aida Vallejo Orbe and Elias Orbe. Never one to shy away from adventure, she would embark on a plane bound for Chicago at 22 years old. A few years later, she would meet her husband Abdon Pacheco on the streets of Chicago, asking him for directions to the local movie theatre. The two would go on to have two daughters, Tania and Didi and settle into a quiet life in Arlington Hts. The next few years would be a flurry of juggling motherhood with work. Aida worked second shift at Littelfuse for 36 years as a line operator, as well as cleaned houses on the weekends.
Aida was a very giving person. She believed in helping others and did so at every opportunity. The door to her house was open to all, a pot of arroz con frijoles on the stove top. She was a lifeline to many. Her wise words would sooth worries away, while her sense of humor would crack even the most serious of people. She could often be found in her garden, happily toiling away as she waved hello to all who passed her. She made friends easily, as she was easy to talk to and someone you felt comfortable confiding in. It was not uncommon to see people inquire about our mother at places such as Citibank or Mago Grill. She was known and loved by so many. She made lasting friendships at Littelfuse, as well as Lutheran Home (where she worked the last 15 years as a dietary aid).
The last twenty years she relished her role as a grandmother to six boys. She could be found all over town with her grandsons. Whether it was picking them up from school, taking them to the park or fixing them something warm; she was always present in their lives. She took pride in her little wolf pack and although the boys caused many a gray hair to sprout, she loved spending time with them.
Life without her will never be the same. We will miss her sense of humor and wit. Who will come up with all the clever nicknames she was so good at doing? Costco and Home Depot runs will be so boring without her scolding us for spending so much. My sister will be able to sleep without interruption and my front passenger seat will be empty without my co-pilot. I loved our adventures! You could always count on her to share bag of pork rinds or a frozen margarita. Her zest for life was infectious. I know she is cracking everyone up in heaven, as she cracked us up down here.
Aida Cecilia Pacheco is survived by her husband Abdon Pacheco, her two daughters Tania (Charles) Pacheco Bedrosian and Didi Pacheco. She is also survived by her grandsons: Brady Martin, Matthew Perez, Nicholas Bedrosian, Noah Bedrosian, Evan Bedrosian and Aidan Perez (Pulgitas - little flea in Spanish) and last but not least, her beloved dog Cookie.
