Andrew Martin Pondel

Andrew(Andy)Martin Pondel of Mundelein and previously of Park Ridge, was born September 13, 1937 in Chicago to John and Stella (nee Szczepanik) Pondel. He passed away peacefully April 5, 2023 at his daughter’s home in Buffalo Grove.

Andrew is survived by his children Marilyn (Tom) Frank and Mark (Laura) Pondel; he was beloved Ga to Andrew(Anj), and grandfather to Natasha (AJ), Madeline (Alex) and William (Vanessa); beloved brother to Art (Barb) Pondel, and Brother in law to Nancy Peterson, and the late George Peterson, many nieces and nephews. Dog Dad to his boy, Dexter.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 60 years, LaVerne (nee Kolacki) Pondel; his brother Albert (Gerrie) Pondel, his parents, and his beloved fishing partner and friend, Elmer (Al) Polcyn.

Andy joined the Army, and served both active and reserve duty for 6 years. Andy worked at White Cap for 30+ years where he met LaVerne, and then became an independent consultant. He loved his family and dogs more than anything, and enjoyed fishing with his best friend, Al, fishing in Canada with his brother, Al, and nephews, John and Michael. Later on, he loved taking his grandson and Best Buddy, Andrew.

Memorial visitation Friday, April 14, 2023 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment will take place privately.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to a local animal and adoption shelter.
