Of Arlington Heights
Barbara Milling was born September 20, 1930 in Chicago to George and Urith (nee Barrett) White. She died November 4, 2022 at Alexian Village in Elk Grove Village. Barbara was a long-time resident of Park Ridge.
Barbara, an only child, marveled that her family had grown exponentially. After marrying Elmer at age 18, Barbara stayed home to raise their five children. Once they were off to Junior High, she started working at a small travel agency. Her love for travel and her coworkers led to a forty-year career when she retired in her 80s. Barbara travelled the world from celebrating with the students on Tiananmen Square to traversing Cape Horn. Her grandchildren were lucky to join her as she took each of them on a special 8th grade graduation trip. Barbara loved learning and was a ferocious reader and especially liked American Civil War and English history. She passed her love for cooking, cards and the Cubs to her children and grandchildren. Barbara was the Internet to her kids’ questions before computers and she enjoyed playing Trivial Pursuit and Jeopardy. Barbara was generous with her friends and to numerous charities. She was passionate about genealogy research and keeping alive the stories of her ancestors.
Barbara is survived by her children Deborah (Gordon) Schroll, Melissa (Keith) Kinsley, Nancy (Robert) Bohanan, Jeffrey (Mary) Milling and James Milling; her grandchildren Beth, Matthew (Meghan), Erik (Alyne), Peter (Sandra) Meghan (Tom), Alicia (Mike), Rebecca, Emily (Brett), Eric (Sarah’s husband), Jenny (Mark), Katherine, Danny, Scott, John, Lauren (fiancé, Konrad) Joey, and Ben; her great grandchildren Lexi, Grace, Jack, Ryan, Andrew, Serena, Lucas, Myles, Ava, Sam, Marty, Emma, Anthony, Dominic, Jakob, Janie, Tessa, Everett, Emmett, Jonah, Mazey and Frank.
