Born and raised in Chicago, she built a life rooted in family, friends, and connection. She was a devoted mother to four children: Patricia (Paul) Incapreo, Edward (Christina) Murphy, Kevin Murphy, and Christine (Mark) Kaufman.
Married to the love of her life for 50 years, Edward Murphy (deceased 2011) was an Irish immigrant who literally lifted her off of her feet as he was a young elevator operator in her building. Together they shared a life built on hard work, loyalty, and companionship. In later years they relished the role of grandparents to Anastasia, Paulie, Megan, Ryan, Mya, Kelsey, Liam, Lily, Alex, and Jack.
A natural socializer, she loved being around people and found joy in conversation, gatherings, and friendships. Throughout the decades, Barb and Ed were known fixtures in downtown Arlington Heights at The Dunton House. When Barb wasn’t making rounds chatting at booths, leaving Ed to enjoy his meal, their standing Tuesday Night couples group table of friends was heard frolicking, reminiscing, and planning empty nest adventures. Outings with her two sisters and their families, holiday and birthday gatherings, bunco nights, trips with decades-old friends, companionship with her faithful dog Pogue, and an almost 30 - year career at Rolling Meadows HS kept her youthful.
Though Parkinson’s took much from her over the recent years, it never diminished her fierce grasp on life, always fighting to retain dignity and independence. She is now free from pain and at peace.
