Beacher Gambill

Beacher was born at home in Perry County, Kentucky – the oldest of 16 children. He was no stranger to hard work. Growing up, he worked in the fields, took his dad to work before dawn, helped chop wood for his family, and often babysat for his siblings.

He moved to Indiana as a teenager and started working. He later came to the Chicago area, sometimes working two jobs, until he retired at age 71.

After his retirement, he loved gardening, cooking, and telling stories about his Kentucky days – the good times as well as the hard times.

More than being a hard worker, Beacher was generous and had a happy heart. No matter how hard life was, he always found something to smile or joke about at the end of the day. Even during the final days of his life, when we visited him in his hospital room, he would smile at us.

Beacher came to know Jesus in the last years of his life and prayed all the time. We believe that when he arrives at the doors of heaven, he will turn his head to the side – the same way he did on earth when he waited for someone to welcome him in – and we know that Jesus will welcome him with open arms.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his four brothers, and three sisters.

Beacher is survived by his wife, Betty Gambill (nee Sebastian); his children Sharon Kaye (Larry) Cockerham, Ronald Gambill, and Vicky (Jairo) Arias; his grandchildren, Jessica Washum and Willie Cockerham; and his nine great grandchildren. He also is survived by his brothers Marvin (Sally) Gambill and Wallace (Hallie) Gambill and sisters Ruthie (Henry) Caudil, Mary Allen, Margie (Mathew) Marshall, Delphia White, Jenny (Larry) White, and Glenna Faye Vires.

We will never forget your smile and we'll miss you until we see you again in heaven.

Visitation is Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from 10:30 am until time of Funeral Service at 12:30 pm, at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd. 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment will be at Arlington Heights, Wheeling Township Cemetery.
