Bernard J. Mitchell

Bernard J. Mitchell was born on August 4, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to Bernard and Julia (nee O'Neil) Mitchell. He died Friday, July 12, 2019 at The Garlands of Barrington in Barrington, IL.

Mr. Mitchell was a US Army veteran who served overseas in Europe from 1955 until he was honorably discharged in 1957.

Mr. Mitchell then worked as a Manager for Illinois Bell Communications for over 30 years while living in Chicago, Hillside and Arlington Heights, IL. with his family. He raised 4 children, often helping coach their sports teams.

In his retirement he spent winters in New Smyrna Beach, FL. where he enjoyed being outside, walking the beach, dinner with friends and reading.

Bernard was a strict Irish Catholic father who softened as he aged. He loved spending time with family and joking around with his many grandchildren.

Bernard is survived by his spouse Karen Mitchell (nee Meyer), his children Kevin (Sandra) Mitchell, Patty (Laura Oeffling) Mitchell, Colleen (Michael Schmitt) Gomolski, Beth (Scott) Osel; his grandchildren Skyler Mitchell, Kathryn Mitchell, Anna Gomolski, Benjamin Gomolski, Lucas Gomolski, Madelyn Osel and Nathan Osel and his brother John (Eileen "Kay") Mitchell; he was also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Nancy Mitchell, his parents, as well as his brothers William (Maureen) Mitchell and Thomas Mitchell.

Visitation Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 9:00 am until time of prayers at 10:30 am at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (four blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights, Illinois 60004 processing to Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, 440 S. Mitchell, Arlington Heights, Illinois for a Funeral Mass at 11:00am. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
