Carolyn Ruth Carlson

Carolyn Ruth Carlson, née Johnson, was a generously loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend. Most importantly, she was a Christ-follower who lived each precious day she was given to the fullest. She left this world for her heavenly reward on Apr 27, 2022, at age 72.

She was born to John W. and Edith S. Johnson on April 12, 1950, at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois. She graduated from Niles West High School and Trinity College, in Deerfield, IL. She soon met the love of her life, her husband Dale Art Carlson. Together they had two children: Jill and Dan, whom she adored.

Carolyn loved singing, card-making, discussing politics, and teaching children about their Savior. She was an expert at making pepparkakor. She spent many years leading children's choirs and teaching Sunday school at Arlington Heights EFC, Grace Community Church, The Chapel-Palatine, and most recently at Grace Anglican Fellowship.

Carolyn taught third and fourth grades at Vienna Christian School, Calvary Christian School, and Downers Grove Christian School.

Despite huge obstacles, Carolyn never complained about her health. She was such a great example of perseverance, grace, and joy. She was always ready for heaven. Her family mourns, but not without hope.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Dale Art Carlson, her daughter, Jill Carlson, son, Dan (Sandy) Carlson-Kaye, her sisters Joanne Henninger and Peggy Smith, and many dear nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Compassion International. Carolyn sponsored many children through Compassion and was able to meet one of her sponsored children in Nairobi, Kenya.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, May 6, 2022, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd. 1520 N. Arlington Hts. Rd., Arlington Heights, IL. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Grace Anglican Fellowship, 991 S Waukegan Rd, Lake Forest, IL. Private burial at Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines, IL.
