

Donald Joseph Craig passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024 in Mount Prospect, Illinois. Born on April 15,1937 in Chicago, Illinois to Robert and Matilda Craig. He was a graduate of Steinmetz High School on Chicago's northwest side.
After graduation from high school Don joined the United States Navy as a member of the sixth fleet, as a boiler tech on the USS Des Moines CA-134, 8th Mediterranean Cruise, beginning off the coast of United States, Newport News, Virgina touring through the Mediterranean, traveling to historic places throughout the world and forging friendships with people from all over the United States during his enlistment.
After Don's honorable discharge from the United States Navy, he returned home to his family on the northwest side of Chicago and married his high school sweetheart Patricia Walsh on April 26,1958, their union being blessed with 66 years and three sons.
In that same year, Don started Prospect Garage Door Company in Mount Prospect, Illinois. As the founder, he built an organization which served the Chicago Metro area for 25 years before selling his company and retiring to Sarasota, Florida.
Sarasota was a new chapter for both Don and his wife Patricia, whom he loving called his "Flower", where they shared a love of golf, friends, traveling and life's moments with family.
Don loved spending time with his grandchildren. He would pick up his 8 grandchildren on Sunday mornings in his station wagon and all go to McDonald's for breakfast and then the local area parks.
He is survived by his wife Patricia (nee Walsh), his sons Donald S. Craig, Keith (Jennifer) Craig Sr, James (Mary Jo) Craig; his grandchildren Erin (Greg) Foley, Keith (Danielle) Craig, Courtney Craig, Patrick (Mauricio) Orozco, Sean Craig, Ryan Craig, Donald (Samantha) Craig, Colleen (Kyle) Kenyon, Molly (Nick) Bara; his great-grandchildren Colin, Cameron and Michael Foley, Jacob, Keith and Kylie Craig, Henry, Nora, Jane and Ruby Kenyon, Brody, Jagger and Carmela Craig and James, Vincent and Anthony Bara. Fond brother-in-law to Leroy (the late Nancy) Rosasco, the late Phil and late Bernadine Rizzo, and Diane and (the late Russell) Haver. Wonderful uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his siblings Elizabeth Kalemba, Henry Craig, Robert Craig, John Craig, Margaret (the late William) Klatt, and Samuel Craig and his grandson James Donald Craig.
The Craig Family would like to acknowledge and thank the many healthcare providers that extended their compassion, understanding and medical guidance.
A memorial visitation will take place from 9:00am until time of the Memorial Service at 11:00am on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd. Arlington Heights, Illinois. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
