Dottie was a woman of remarkable strength, grace, and devotion. As the wife of a career Marine, she moved many times, embracing each new place as an opportunity to build community and create a sense of home. Wherever life took her, she formed lasting friendships and surrounded herself with a circle of cherished friends—her chosen family. She had a profound love for her family and friends, and her life was defined by the care, loyalty, and generosity she extended to everyone around her. The ocean held a special place in her heart, offering her peace and renewal through its beauty and constancy. Dottie faced an extraordinary 11-year battle with ovarian cancer with courage, resilience, and quiet determination, reflecting the strength of character that shaped her entire life.
Dottie was a loving mother to the late Jamie Santos and to Laurie Santos (Tom Goszcynski). She was a cherished grandmother to Ben and Sam, and a dear sister to Mary Ann Tobias and Carl Daniel Brown. She was also a fond aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Vasil “Pete” Peter Santos; her parents and her siblings, Edward Brown, John Brown, and Heather Lawn.
Dottie will be laid to rest at Wheeling Township Arlington Heights Cemetery.
