Dorothy was the beloved wife of 63 years to Gilbert; loving mother to Paul (Mary) Schmidt, Jacqueline(Douglas) Wadsworth, Marilyn (Sheldon) Strauch, Timothy (Vonda) Schmidt, David (Maggie) Schmidt, Karen (Michael) Vick, Mark Schmidt; proud grandmother of Monique, Joshua, Charity, Carissa, Nicholas, Isaac, Thomas(deceased), Matthew, Ryan, James, Ainsley, Morgan, Madison, Mackenzie, Gavin, and Maryn; doting great grandmother to Skylar, Josiah, Faith, and Hope.
Dorothy grew up in Monaco, Wisconsin. At age 19 she married Gilbert, who was serving in the US Army at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. Soon afterwards Gilbert was stationed in Germany and Dorothy joined him there. After returning to the USA, Dorothy and Gilbert settled in the Chicago area.
Dorothy was a self-sacrificing person who lived to serve her family, friends, and her Savior, Jesus Christ. All who knew her would attest to her compassionate heart, her generosity towards others, and her kindness. She demonstrated cheerfulness in adversity, even in her last days. Her faithful, consistent disposition endeared her to those who knew her. Proverbs 31:28 -31 says, “ Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praised her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellent them all. Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands and let her own works praise her in the gates.” Dorothy’s life demonstrated the above verses. She was devoted to her husband. Raising and caring for her family was a priority. She is greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
