Dorothy A. Welzen was born on September 18, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph and Eva (nee Wojtowicz) Miszkowicz. She died Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at the Moorings HealthCare Center in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
Dorothy was a proud graduate of Loyola University where she received both her Bachelor and Masters Degrees.
Dorothy had a long career as a school teacher which began in a 6th grade classroom and continued with the instruction of High School Mathematics at both Private and Public schools for hundreds of students. Her love of teaching continued after retiring from the classroom through a Central Texas College program as a NCPACE instructor where she educated young men and women serving our country deployed on Naval ships. She taught a varied Mathematics curriculum, all while living and traveling with our country's servicemen and women. She received several commendations from those she shared her time and talent with while on ship.
Dorothy loved to bike, read, keep up with current events and attend cultural arts events especially the opera and theatre. She was an avid traveler and her trips took her around the world, where she loved to experience the history, culture and shopping for treasured keepsakes.
Dorothy was an original owner for 48 years of the condo she loved in Arlington Heights. She enjoyed walks at Lake Arlington, Church and Bible studies at St Edna's along with trips and activities at the Arlington Heights Senior Center.
She loved to style and fashion in the color purple and would always enjoy "Good Times" with family and friends at celebrated traditional Polish holidays and gatherings.
Dorothy is survived by her niece, Mary (Phil) Markiewicz; she was a loving aunt to many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews; she is also survived by her dear friend, Pam Pipkin.
She was preceded in death by her spouse Dennis Welzen, her parents as well as her siblings Rose (late Edward) Pochowicz, Loretta (late Sylvester) Kantorski, Stanley (late Irene) Sikorski, Chester (late Jeanne) Miszkowicz, Henry Miszkowicz and Fred Miszkowicz.
Memorial Visitation Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 9:00 am until time of the Funeral Service at 10:00 am at St. Edna Catholic Church 2525 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment will be held privately.
