Edward C. Cahill, Jr.

Cherished husband of 54 years of Patricia Cahill, nee Butts; father of Sara Cahill and Mark (Kathryn Young) Cahill; grandfather of Georgina and Jack Cahill; son of the late Edward Charles and Ruth (nee Klingman), son-in-law of the late William and Kathryn (nee Drake) Butts, preceded in death by his sister, Betty Martin.

Ed was born May 22, 1946, in Oak Park. He graduated from Fenwick High School in 1964, then from the University of Illinois with a degree in finance, and from De Paul University with an MBA. He served in the Air National Guard.

He met his wife, Pat, in college, and they were married in St John’s Catholic Newman Center at UIUC in January of 1970, as they graduated from college. Ed spent his career in the banking industry, beginning with La Salle National Bank and retiring from Bank of America.

Ed was a member of the St James Catholic Church in Arlington Heights where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, member of Parish Council, site manager for the PADS program, RCIA team member for 20 years, and volunteer in both additions to the Church and Parish Center.

In addition to being a cherished husband, loving father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend to many, Ed was a friend of Bill W for 34 years. Ed was a gentle and soft-spoken man. He was humble and a loyal friend. Together, he and Pat enjoyed traveling to Australia to visit family. He will be missed by many who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held from 2-7 pm Sunday, January 28, at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights, and from 9 am Monday, January 29, until time of funeral mass at 10 am at St James Catholic Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. Interment at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
