Elfriede Theresa Irwin (nee Grimmbacher) of Arlington Heights, IL died on Feb. 8, 2020. Because of the pandemic, funeral services were not possible at the time of her passing. She was born on April 22, 1924, in Augsburg, Germany to Joseph and Euphrosina Grimmbacher. Elfriede met Corporal Wendell G. Irwin during his service in Germany. They married on May 11, 1947.
Elfriede worked at a doctor’s office and Pure Oil before her children were born. She retired from United Airlines in 1997.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Carola, and a brother Frank.
She is survived by a sister, Erika, a son, Stephen Irwin (Lynne), a daughter, Rosemarie (Robb), four grandchildren and two nephews.
Funeral Mass Friday, June 9 at 12:00 pm at St. James Catholic Church, 820 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. Interment private
