Gary R Deitelhoff 73, of Arlington Heights was born on June 27, 1952, to the late Robert and late Opal (nee Krablin) Deitelhoff and passed away March 6, 2026. Gary was the beloved husband of Jennifer (nee Stehley) Deitelhoff; loving father of Carolyn Ann (Matthew) Harden and Sarah Colleen Deitelhoff; devoted grandfather of Robby and Griffin Harden; dear brother of Judith (Floyd) Bush; fond uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Gary loved all sports, especially basketball. After playing for the Millikin University Big Blue, Gary played basketball professionally in France for a year before coming back stateside to be closer to his family. He went on to play in the World Master's Games in Arhaus, Denmark where he won Gold. In 2013 Gary was inducted to Millikin's Athletic Hall of Fame. Gary also played first base for the St James II men's softball team for many years, contributing to multiple championship wins. When he wasn't playing himself, Gary. loved coaching both of his daughters in every sport they played, soccer, softball, and basketball. And if he couldn't coach, he was at every dance recital, band and choir concert, and theatre performance they were ever in.
Gary loved and was willing to tackle any and all new adventures from skiing to overnight horseback rides, parasailing, snorkeling, and every rollercoaster his daughters and grandsons ever wanted to go on. He loved music, especially classic rock, and played guitar. and harmonica, as well as singing and always being ready to dance. He was the life of every party.
Gary was above all else the kindest, most considerate person. He was entirely devoted to his family and friends and went out of his way to help anyone who needed it. When it snowed, he was out shoveling not only his sidewalk and driveway but anyone on the block who needed it. He believed in always parking at the end of the lot, because someone else might need the closer spot more.
