Of Lake in the Hills
Gene Sieczko was born October 4, 1946 in Germany to Michael and Wanda (nee Radjiewska) Sieczko. He passed away September 9, 2021 at Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital.
Gene moved to the US with his parents at a young age and later in life attained citizenship. He was a proud American and Vietnam War Veteran. He served in the Vietnam War (1969-70), with a title of Specialist Fourth Class. His work was recognized because of his valorous actions for serving as the point man in a reconnaissance platoon. “With complete disregard for his personal safety, Specialist Sieczko assaulted the enemy soldiers…through his timely and courageous actions, Specialist Siezcko contributed significantly to the overall success of the mission. Specialist Four Sieczko’s heroism, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflect great credit upon himself, and the Americal Division, and the United States Army.” He was also recognized with several commendation metals for his leadership, and marksmanship during the war. In 1973 he became a father to his son Michael James who preceded him in death by only a few weeks. They were always together building legos, creating train layouts, or hiking on camping trips. The only thing he loved more than being a father was being Grandpa Gene. He loved to take “his girls” to every event they had and could often be found at the homework table.
He worked many years for Ameritech as a fiber optics engineer, his work took him overseas for several years. When Gene set a goal he achieved it. He was always learning something new and in turn always teaching one of us what he found. A true storyteller to all.
Gene had a heart of gold and would drop everything when someone needed him, didn’t really matter who. He could find a friend any where he went with his charismatic charm. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle, and he took all of those roles very seriously. Always there to assist with homework, or just to talk to when you needed him. His favorite activity was going to the movies, especially if it was for Star Wars, and then grabbing a bite to eat at Portillo’s after. He had a great sense of humor with an infectious laugh that everyone will miss.
Gene is survived by his wife Kathy (nee Servedio) Sieczko; his granddaughters Miana and Izabella Sieczko; his siblings Bruno and Stanley (Lottie) Kwiatkowski, Roman (late Anna) Sieczko, Tara Sieczkov and Alice (Jim) Johnson; brothers-in-law Daniel Servedio and Nick(Terry) Servedio; sisters-in-law Rose Servedio and Gina (Rick) Planell and by many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his son Michael J. Sieczko; his sister Krys Sieczko and by his parents.
