

George L. PedersenOf Arlington HeightsGeorge L. Pedersen was born on March 3, 1930 in Chicago, to George and Irene (nee Clausen) Pedersen. He died Sunday, November 23, 2014 in Arlington Heights.George served in the United States Air Force in Alaska during the Korean War, and then graduated from Carthage College in 1958. He worked as a teacher in Elmhurst and then for School District 62 in Des Plaines, where he also coached basketball for 16 years. He was a long-time employee of the Des Plaines Park District, and also worked for several years at Countryside Golf Club in Mundelein. He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights, where he served as the head usher. He enjoyed watching sports and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Blackhawks, the Minnesota Twins, and Northwestern University. George loved to spend time with his family and was loved by all. George is survived by his children Scott Pedersen, Barbara (Peter) Vasquez, and Nancy (Peter) Rzonca; grandchildren, Carolyn (Scott) Meves, Alex Vasquez, Derek Vasquez, Ben Rzonca, Olivia Rzonca, Sam Rzonca, Jake Rzonca, and Greta Rzonca; sister-in-law, Karen Pedersen; niece, Kirsten (Paul) Bray and nephew, Erik (Megan) Pedersen. He was preceded in death by wife, Carol; his parents; and brother, Roger Pedersen. Visitation Tuesday, December 2, 2014 from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 North Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights. A Memorial Gathering will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, December 3, 2014 until the 11:00 am Memorial Service at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1234 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois 60004. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2211 North Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707-3392.
