Jackie was born and grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota where she met her husband Timothy at Edison High School. They married in 1962. Jackie was the first in her family to graduate from college, with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mathematics. Jackie supported Tim by teaching high school mathematics while he pursued his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
After being a stay-at-home Mom for a few years, Jackie obtained her real estate license and worked as a sales agent and manager for Elliot Realty in Bloomington, Minnesota. She started a new real estate office in Prior Lake for Thorpe Realty and then was recruited to write and teach Edina Realty’s agent training program.
When Jackie and Tim’s Danish friend Fred Sorensen lost his job in 1983, Jackie and Fred bought the rights to the Novus windshield repair franchise in Denmark and opened a windshield repair business together in Copenhagen. The company eventually went nationwide and operated until 2008 when it was sold to a larger corporation. Jackie later led a committee to write and approve the U.S. national ANSI standard for windshield long crack repair for the National Glass Association.
A few years after Tim was transferred for work to Austin, Texas in 1984, Jackie also purchased a small Public Records Search business which she renamed Tyler-McLennon Inc. She grew the business to 25 employees, operated in 5 states and eventually sold it to Choicepoint Inc to retire.
After retiring, Jackie kept busy leading a local Austin chapter of the Women’s Story Circle Network writing group. She also participated in the neighborhood Bible study group.
As dementia robbed her ability to participate in those groups fully, she still enjoyed light reading, gardening, art and her cats.
Jackie is preceded in death by her parents, Neil and Mary Wachs, and her brother Gerhard (Gary) Wachs.
Jackie is survived by her husband of 63 years, Timothy Newman, her daughters Julia (Newman) Hart and Karen Newman, her granddaughter Laurel Hart, and her sister Sharon Wachs.
She will be fondly remembered for her dynamic personality and love of her family, music, art and her cats.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 17th, 2026 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights, IL, 60004. A Remembrance of Life Service will begin at 6 pm.
