Jean Brady

Helen J. (Jean) Brady (nee Callaghan), 87, from Newport, Co. Mayo, Ireland, who was born September 30, 1937, to the late Anthony and Mamie (nee McManamon) Callaghan, passed away on July 4, 2025, in Wheeling, IL.

Jean loved to travel the world, and held a special place in her heart for Newport. She was very involved in her community - she was a member of St. Hilary's Parish in Chicago for 60 years and gave her time as a Mother's Club member and eucharistic minister. In the 1980s and 1990s Jean was employed at senior retirement communities and volunteered with the Vitas hospice program.

From the time she and her late husband immigrated to Chicago from Ireland in 1957, Jean was involved in many activities and fundraisers within the Chicago Irish community, including the St. Pat's Gaelic football organization. She was also employed in the banking field at various times in her life, and in the late 1970s worked in the administration of Chicago Mayor Jane Byrne. She always loved music and passed this love on to her two children. Jean was a 48-year friend of Bill W. and always made the program a priority in her life. She made friends wherever she travelled.

Jean is survived by her children Kevin (Monica) and Kathleen (Robert); grandchildren Dominic and Vivienne; sister Bette; brother Anthony; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Sean Brady; parents Anthony and Mamie; brother John; and sister Maureen.

A visitation for Jean will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 2:00PM- 7:00PM at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights, IL. Interment private.
