

John “Jack” William Taylor was born August 12, 1925 in Oak Park to Ivan and Loretta Taylor. He died January 12, 2023 at Inverness Health and Rehab Center, Inverness, IL.
On December 28, 1962, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Anna Landvogt, they were married for 56 years until her death in 2019. Jack enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in October 1941 at the age of 16. He served for 4 years, of which two and half years were overseas. During that time, he was promoted to Sergeant. He served as a radio operator in tanks and anti-aircraft while stationed in Peleliu. After being honorably discharged from the Marines, Jack worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company for 36 years. He is regarded by his family and friends as one of the most interesting and adventurous men because of all his hobbies. Jack received his Private Pilot’s license in 1967 and flew his aircraft for 44 years. He and Carol took many trips together in their airplane around the U.S. He was a professional drummer in the Fort Dearborn Highlanders bagpipe band for 15 years, followed by being the Drum Major in the Chicago Highlanders bagpiper band for 8 years. At the age of 89, he performed with the band at the halftime show of the Chicago Bulls Game. Jack was a Rifleman with the FDH Color Guard and Chicago Highland Rifles drill unit for 22 years. He built model aircrafts that he entered into competitions and won many medals. A member of the Cross and Cockade. He enjoyed traveling both with Carol and on his own around the world, ultimately visiting over 50 countries. Jack hardly ever missed a year at the annual EAA convention in Oshkosh, WI.
John is survived by his daughter Kathleen (Wilfred) Hegg; his granddaughter, Lauren (fiancé Ryan Pringle) Hegg, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL from 9 am until the time of funeral service at 11 am. Interment private.
