John Ralph Ritchie went to his eternal home on November 5, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. John held fast to his faith in Jesus as his Lord and Savior throughout his illness. He found comfort in having the Bible read to him and listening to hymns of praise.
John was born in Akron, OH on July 12, 1936, to Ralph and Blanche (Eastman) Ritchie. He was the youngest of four children and is survived by a sister, Alice and a brother, William (Georgia).
After graduating from Buchtel High School in 1953, he went to Rochester Institute to study graphic arts and printing. Upon completing his degree in the spring of 1958, he enlisted in the United States Army on October 5, 1958, and was honorably discharged on June 17, 1964.
He met his lovely bride, Judith Ritchie (nee Kaiser), in his hometown and knew instantly that she would be his wife. They married on June 25, 1960, in Columbus, OH. He then began his lengthy sales career in the printing industry including as the Director of Sales for many organizations.
John and Judith welcomed three boys into their family. David (Michelle) was born in 1965. Robert (Donna) was born in 1969, and Brian (Angela) was born in 1970. He is survived by both David and Brian. Robert predeceased his father in June 2023.
John is also survived by his wife, Judith, his daughters-in-law – Michelle, Donna, and Angela, three grandsons – Daniel, David (Kiara), and Samuel, and three granddaughters – Carista (Sebastian), Ava, and Autumn.
John will be remembered by his family and friends for his sense of humor, kindness, generosity, and dedication to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His faith propelled him into many leadership roles in the church. He served as a deacon, elder, choir member, and even a teacher for ecumenical retreats. John’s faithful witness as an ambassador for Christ caused many to be saved and have the assurance of Heaven.
Proverbs 3:5-6 was a key life verse for him. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths.” John is walking with his Savior now, in glory and fullness of joy. Though we will miss him, we grieve with the hope of heaven and a glorious reunion one day.
