Jonelle M. Medina Do, aged 48, passed away on April 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of boundless love and devotion. Known affectionately as "Joy" to her family while growing up—a name she lived out every day of her life—she was born October 27, 1977 to Maria Lita and Amor Medina.
Jonelle was the cherished wife of David, with whom she shared 23 beautiful years of life together that included 20 years of marriage. Theirs was a partnership built on a foundation of true friendship and a shared commitment to the family they built together.
If you were to look for Jonelle on any given day during the week or weekend, you wouldn’t find her at home; you would find her in the stands of a gymnasium, on the sidelines of a track or in the front row of a school auditorium. She never missed a school or sporting event for her children. She was their most loyal fan, ensuring they always had a friendly face to look for in the crowd and a cheering voice that rose above the rest.
Her heart was perhaps most evident in her love for celebrating others. She was a world-class gift-giver who delighted in finding the perfect treasures for every special occasion, especially birthdays and Christmas. She didn't just buy gifts; she "shopped with her heart," spending months thoughtfully choosing items that would make her friends and family feel seen and celebrated.
When she wasn't planning the next family adventure or exploring the country with her husband and children, she was the soul of the home. Her cooking was her love language; she spent countless hours researching and perfecting allergy-friendly recipes to ensure her children could always enjoy a safe, delicious meal at her table. Some of her most treasured moments were sitting around the dinner table asking the kids to name three good things about the day and the quiet ends to busy days—sitting with her puppy, Bentley, in her lap and sharing long talks with David.
She is survived by her loving husband, David; her deeply cherished children, Alexander, Isabella, and Julianna; and her adored puppy, Bentley. She is also survived by her parents-in-law, Hongyen and Duong Do; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, MaryAnhthu and Joseph Brunzelle; and her beloved nieces, JoSophia, Elisabetta, and AvaMarie; and her many Bacay and Medina cousins were a dear part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Michael; her parents, Maria Lita and Amor Medina; and her sister, Aileen Medina.
Her warmth, her generous spirit, and her "biggest heart" will be deeply missed by her community of friends and extended family, but her light will be held forever in the hearts of those she loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor her memory by holding your loved ones a little closer and, in the spirit of "Joy," finding a way to surprise someone with a thoughtful gesture or an unexpected act of kindness today.
Family will be receiving guests on Monday, April 13, 2026 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. A funeral mass will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at St. Mary Parish, 10 N Buffalo Grove Rd, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089.
