She attended Our Lady of the Wayside School and Sacred Heart of Mary High School in Rolling Meadows, where she formed lifelong friendships. During summers, Julie worked for Gage Marine as a mail jumper, delivering mail to Lake Geneva homes, by jumping from a boat to their pier and jumping back on the boat. She loved her role in this unique part of Lake Geneva’s history. Julie then attended the University of Dayton, majoring in American Studies and ultimately starting a career as a programmer for her father’s firm, Computer Information Service. After 16 years, she embarked on a career change, attending law school at night at DePaul University, graduating in 2000. Julie was nearly 42 when she entered the legal field and she eventually found her passion as an immigration attorney, helping newly arrived immigrants navigate the court system and create a path to citizenship. She continued in that role for nearly 25 years, serving as a lawyer and counselor for countless immigrants and their families. When she wasn’t working, Julie loved to bake and plan outings with her many friends, both in Chicago and in Miller Beach, IN. She also was an important part of family gatherings, drawing her many nieces and nephews around her to play board games or cards. Each of them has a special memory of Aunt Julie.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Sheila. She is survived by her siblings: Eileen (Steve) Daday, Peggy (Dennis) Leetzow, Maureen (John) Vaughn, Dan (Lara), Mary-Alice (Tom) Sullivan and Dave (Kim), as well as 25 nieces and nephews and 19 great-nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved.
