Karen Mary Gehrig was born on December 31, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois to Henry and Angeline (nee Werky) Glanz. She died Saturday, December 1, 2018, at JourneyCare of Barrington.

Before retiring in 2006, Mrs. Gehrig was a secretary in the K-Mart corporate office. Karen loved her family and enjoyed walking in her neighborhood, conversing with her friends, and interacting with all the dogs (she knew each by name). She cherished her trips to the ice cream parlor, and vacationing in Door County, Wisc., and Galena, Ill.

Karen is survived by her husband, Steven P. Gehrig; her mother Angeline Glanz; her sisters Kathy (Gary) Akers, and Nancy (Mike) DiGiacinto; her nieces Diana Kim, Angela Guitierrez, Dr. Amanda (Tony Solano) Karm, Katie (Jeff) Mudra, Sarah and Julie Ries, Anna and Madeline Kennedy; her nephews Paul DiGiacinto, Robert Ries, and Mark Karm; her great-niece, Liv Guitierrez, her great-nephew, Roman Kim; her sisters-in-law, Nancy (Dan) Kennedy, and Janet (Thomas) Ries; and her brother-in-law Guy Karm.

She was preceded in death by her father Henry; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul & Dorothy (nee Schoepke) Gehrig; her nephew, Brendan Kennedy; and her sister-in-law Cristine Karm.

Visitation from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, December 6, 2018, at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Hts. where funeral service will be held 10:00 am, Friday, December 7, 2018. Entombment at Memory Gardens.

Family requests, memorials may be given to a charity of the Donor’s choice.
