

Lorraine L. Beck (nee Mandarino) was born on October 5, 1927, in Chicago, IL. to Antonio and Nellie (nee Federico) Mandarino. She died Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Lutheran Home and Services, in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
She was a student at St. Brendan's School and Harper High School on Chicago's southside. She attended Wilson Junior College where she met her eventual husband in the late 1940's. Married in 1949, she went on to build a family of 6 children that were the center and focus of her life. A devoted Mother who was active in the formative years of their lives serving on various committees at their schools including the parent teacher association and as room Mother. She was an expert at running her household and took great pride in her home. She was also an aspiring journalist and writer who penned the review "Wheels A Rollin'" as a fundraiser for the school. An avid fan of The Wheel of Fortune, loved to play Bridge and to entertain. Her baked mostaccioli and garlic bread was a legendary dish among many that she prepared over the years.
Her faith was an important part of who she was. She was a member of Timothy Lutheran Church on the southside and St. Peter Lutheran Church in Arlington Hts since the mid-60's where she was an active member of the congregation participating in a weekly Bible Study with her friends and serving as a founding member of the Christ Cultural Committee celebrating the rich musical heritage of the church. Both she and her husband had a wide circle of friends through their church family. They were one of the first couples to reside in the Luther Village retirement community which allowed her to transition to the Lutheran Home where she resided at her death.
She is survived by her sons Stephen, Howard (Barbara) and Charlie and her daughters Barbara (Safwat) Hassan, Lauren Hoffstadt, and Nancy (Dean) Miller; and her grandchildren: her grandchildren Andy (Jennifer) Beck, Jordan (Becca) Beck, Shannon (Chad) Lohrentz, Trevor Fitzgerald, Marcus (Susie) Beck, Anna (Steven) Janosik, Jessica (Zach) Jarling, Jackie (Colin) Trocha, Jenna (Josh) Gause, Jillian Hoffstadt, Christine (Nick) Wade, and Darren Miller; and her 15 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 74 years: Charles F. Beck and her parents Antonio and Nellie Mandarino (nee Federico) and her brothers Salvatore and Edward Mandarino and her sister Joan Moretta (nee Mandarino).
Public visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Friday, 19 April 2024, at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Memorial service will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 20, 2024, at St. Peter Lutheran Church 111 W. Olive St. Arlington Hts, IL The Beck family will receive guest starting at 12pm. Following the service, guests are invited to a reception in Bartz Hall.
