

Marvette Ruth Ballou, nee Grove , age 88, passed away on September 19, 2013 at Claremont Rehab & Living Center in Buffalo Grove. She was born December 1, 1924 in Buffalo, New York to William Chester and Marion (Spink) Grove. Marvette was a 1942 graduate of Maine Township High School and attended Lake Forest College where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She married Eugene W. Ballou on September 16, 1944. Marvette worked for many years at Carson Pirie Scott & Co., Associated Truck Lines, Kuhlman Corp. and retired from Transtech Products Co. A long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights, Marvette enjoyed spending time with her family, painting, travelling, reading, doing crossword puzzles and keeping in touch with her high school classmates.Survivors include daughters Karen (Fred) Babashka of Poplar Grove, IL, Kathie (Darren) Malina of Plainfield, IL and Karol (Wayne) Dalton-Kempke of Arlington Heights. She is also survived by grandchildren Scott Babashka (Lisa King) of Durand, IL, Chris (Maria) Babashka of Crystal Lake, IL, Greg (Summer) Olson of Wonder Lake, IL, Lauren (Leland) McDonald of Hampton, VA, Crystal Unger of Plainfield, IL and Kelcey Emma (David Bruyndonckx) Dalton of Belgium, Aaron Kempke of DeKalb, IL and Willie (Amanda) Kempke of Loves Park, IL. In addition Marvette is survived by 13 great-granchildren, her sister Barbara Purtee of Gulfport, FL, her nephew Doug Kuhn of Madison, WI, sister-in-law Nancy Ballou and her friend Dorothy Major of Arvada, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Kimberley Gail Ballou, former husband Eugene W. Ballou, brother-in-law Wayne Purtee and nephew David Kuhn.Marvette’s family would like to thank Journeycare Hospice of Barrington, IL and the Claremont of Buffalo Grove for their caring and supportive care of Marvette during the final months of her life.Visitation will be Wednesday September 25, 2013 from 11:00 AM until time of funeral service 1:00 PM at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights with Pastor Thomas Sanders of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery 2501 East Euclid Avenue, Arlington Heights. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marvette’s honor to the charity of your choice.
