Mary Kay DeBaets (nee Fergus), 83, was born on February 15,1943 in Chicago to the late John and Catherine (nee Shea) Fergus and passed away on April 11, 2026. Mary was the beloved wife to the late Bill DeBaets; loving sister to John (Kathy) Fergus, and the late Jim (Fran) Fergus; dear sister-in-law to Mary Claire DeBaets; and fond aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Mary and her late husband Bill were married on July 4, 1970, they enjoyed many wonderful years together. They liked to travel and were avid bird watchers. She graduated with her degree in Nursing and worked as a registered nurse at Swedish Covenant and then several private practices.
Everyone who knew Mary described her as one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. Even later in life while she was living at the nursing home, she was one of the nurse’s favorite patients. She will be missed dearly.
A church visitation will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Saint Alphonsus Liguori Church, 411 N. Wheeling Rd., Prospect Heights, IL 60070, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. The funeral mass will follow at church at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private at a later time.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that a memorial gift be made in Mary’s name to Notre Dame College Prep, 7655 W. Dempster, Niles, IL 60174.
