Melecio (Mel/Boy) de la Torre, 86, died in his home in Arlington Heights, IL on May 2, 2024. He was born in Cebu City Philippines to Silvino and Lucia de la Torre. He graduated high school and graduated college in geodetic engineering from Cebu Institute of Technology. He later got an accounting degree from the University of Visayas after landing a job in accounting for Visayan Electrical Company. He, along with his wife and children, immigrated to the United States in the mid 1970s. He worked for Sargent & Lundy as an electrical draftsman. He later worked for Rockwell International until his retirement.
He was preceded to heaven by his father, mother, older sister (Choling), and younger brother (Silvino Jr). He is survived by his wife of 61 yrs Rosita; sons Romel and Richard; daughter Meluz (Randl); grandchildren Amanda (Kealaula) and Khaylen (Ryan); and his younger siblings Ruben, Mer, Bing, and Carlos and many nieces and nephews.
He was described by family and friends as a quiet, kind and gentle person. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. During his later years, he and his wife enjoyed traveling with close friends and relatives. He was an active member of the Amihan Club of America and Cebu Institute of Technology Alumni Association for many years. He will be missed by loved ones and many who knew him well.
Friends and family will gather for a visitation for Melecio that will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2024 from 10am until time of funeral service at 1pm at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 East Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment private.
