He was born on Nov. 21, 1928, in Atlanta, Ga., and graduated in 1949 from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he studied chemical engineering. He worked his entire career at Honeywell UOP and was granted more than 27 U.S. and foreign patents. Newt retired as Vice President of Engineering in 1986.
A longtime resident of Mount Prospect, Newt served on several village government and school commissions and enjoyed coaching local Little League baseball teams.
A loving Christian and family man, he also was a faithful member of Northwest Covenant Church for more than 50 years, where he served on multiple committees and was active in Community Bible Study.
He is survived by his three children, Robert (Dr. Gini Fleming) Hallman; Kenneth (Deborah) Hallman; and Janet (Charles) Mefferd; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Marilyn, his beloved wife of 61 years.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Northwest Covenant Church, 300 N. Elmhurst Ave., Mount Prospect. Interment is private.
