Nova E. Thompson

Nova E (nee Garner) Thompson, 90, passed away on August 1th7, 2023 in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She was born March 11, 1933 in Great Bend, Kansas to James (Dink) and Nora (née Colley) Garner. On September 8, 1955, Nova married Dr. Emmanuel Thompson and had two children, Anthony (Mary) Thompson of Hawthorn Woods and Angela (Julian) Warrick of North Potomac, Maryland; cherished grandchildren Aria Warrick, Alyssa Warrick-Glover, Andrew and Jonathan Thompson; treasured great-grandchildren Gabriel and Josephine Glover. Nova was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Carrie and brothers James, Dink, Ward, Amos and Silas.

Throughout her life Nova’s primary focus was the love and care of her family. Nova guided her children through the challenging times of being the only non-white children at St James Catholic School by standing up against derogatory comments and racism. In addition to being a devoted mother, Nova enjoyed various volunteer efforts at St James Church, the local food pantry, as well as being an Election Judge for over a decade. Nova enjoyed baking chocolate chip cookies, yeast dinner rolls and Emmanuel’s favorite cherry pie.
