Robert J. Bengston

Robert J Bengston, 96 of Arlington Heights was born on May 5, 1929 in Chicago and passed away on September 30, 2025. He will be missed dearly. Robert was the beloved husband to Miriam (nee Beyer) Bengston; loving father to his children Nancy Zimmerman, Julie Bengston, Karen Hudec, and to his step-children Ruthanne Ziolkowski and Michelle Venard; dear grandfather to Billy Zimmerman, Michael Maloney, Beckie Flowers, and Rachel Huddleston; and fond great grandfather to 9 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his late wife Jeanne C Bengston, his grandson the late Stephen Hudec and his great grandson the late Samuel Huddleston.

After graduation from Lane Tech, Bob started working for Illinois Bell. He worked his way up and stayed when it became AT&T. He retired in 1990. During this time, he married Jeanne and raised three daughters. He served during the Korean War in communication in Japan.

Bob and Miriam met square dancing. They realized a love of Hawaii and had a Hawaiian wedding at Community Presbyterian Church.

Bob joined Miriam in the church choir. Bob welcomed 2 stepdaughters and together they welcomed 5 grandchildren and 9 great grand children.

He was an avid square dancer and an accomplished wood worker. In retirement he enjoyed traveling. His church activities included church choir, mission trips to the Dominican Republic, construction and singing in the Living Christmas Tree and helping with the spring plant sale. His biggest love was his love of family.

A visitation for Robert will be held Friday, October 10, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Community Presbyterian Church, 407 N Main St, Mount Prospect, IL 60056. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Mount Emblem Cemetery, 520 E Grand Ave, Elmhurst, IL 60126.
