

Robert James Scanlan, 81 of Holland, MI and formerly of Arlington Heights, IL, died in Milwaukee WI on August 11, 2014. Bob"s faith in Jesus Christ brought him comfort, hope and peace in life and in death.Bob was born March 16, 1933 to Nelle (nee Curley) and Chet Scanlan. Bob was the younger brother to William and Teresa. Bob enjoyed his work life and spent many years in the security alarm business. Bob treasured his time as a board member to multiple municipal boards and his work with reviving the The Felt mansion in Holland MI. He took delight and pride in giving back to his community, the church and the next generations. Bob loved his dog and horse, boating, Hope College basketball, and supplying a slice of heaven to his family and friends, in the biggest sandbox in the world.Bob graduated from Northwestern University and had fond memories of playing football.Bob is survived by 6 of his seven children: Carol (Scott) Woodin, David (Betsy) Scanlan, Linda (Steve) Znachko, Jane (Doug) Guffy, Tom Scanlan and Julie (Mike) Soyka. Bob was Papa to 26 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.Bob was preceded in death by his son Scott Scanlan, his daughter in-law Sharon (nee Seiler) Scanlan and the love of his life Ann (nee Rix). They were married for 56 years. Bob and Ann were devoted to their family. They loved and enjoyed their friends, traveling and making memories.In 1993, Bob and Ann partnered with St. Viator High School, in memory of their son Scott "76, to implement a program for students who have specific diagnosed learning differences and who have the potential to succeed academically at Saint Viator. The program continues to grow and serve hundreds of students each year. This had been a heartfelt endeavor of Bob and Ann"s.Visitation is being help from 3-5 pm on August 17th at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights. Prayers will be said 10:30 am, Monday, August 18, 2014 at St. James Catholic Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights.
