

Rose was born on June 12, 1928, to Michael and Mary (née Clarke) Smith, and throughout her life, she called Chicago and Arlington Heights home.
She shared her life with her beloved husband and "bestest friend," the late John P. Gaughan. Together, they built a large family and a life rooted in faith and devotion to each other and their children.
She is the cherished mother of John (Kathleen) Gaughan, the late Mary (Ralph) Chapman, the late Patrick Gaughan, Maureen (Lance) Krahl, Brian (Judy) Gaughan, Carolyn Beaston-Gaughan, Colleen (David Hogaboom) Gaughan, and Michelle (Jason Smith) Smith-Gaughan.
Rose’s legacy continues through her many grandchildren: Patrick (Yvette) Gaughan, Katy (Patrick) Joyce, Robert (Karen) Chapman, Thomas (Mishelle) Chapman, Suzanne Chapman, Jeffery (Tammy) Chapman, Sheila (David) Walters, Sean (Kristen) Krahl, Brendan (Taylor) Krahl, Daniel (Alexandra) Krahl, Martin (Julia) Krahl, Bridget (Josh) Rivera, Erin (Brian) Strub, Brian (Amanda Skelnik) Gaughan, Kevin (Denise Benson) Gaughan, Patrick (Samantha) Gaughan, Kelly (Chris Delaney) Gaughan, Timothy (Colleen Shandley) Hogaboom, Emma (Colten Wolf) Hogaboom, Erin (Daniel Rascher) Hogaboom, Maura Hogaboom, Quinn Smith, Emmett Smith, Fei Smith, and Ellierose Smith.
She was also blessed with numerous great-grandchildren: Spencer, Lauren, Rose, Madeline, Benjamin, Katherine, Austin, Olivia, Renee, Keegan, Shannon, Colin, Aiden (deceased), Owen, Molly, Maeve, Nora, Colin, Liam, Wesley, Hazel, Kellen, Jonathon, Autumn, Imogen, Finnegan, Emma, Ruby, Charlie, Greenley, Daphne, Lainey, Elliott (deceased), Julius (deceased), Cole, Juliana, Maeve and Elise Rose.
Her love extended to her great-great-grandchildren: MacKenzie, MJ, Ethan, and Jaxson.
Rose also leaves behind cherished sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and her beloved caregiver of many years, Violet Jankeviciene.
A devout Catholic and member of Our Lady of the Wayside parish in Arlington Heights, Rose found strength in her faith.
Phone calls always ended with "I love you. Give each other a hug for me."
She lived a full life surrounded by generations of family who carry forward her memory with a smile. Rose will be dearly missed.

Burial will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery and Mausoleum, 1400 S. Wolf Rd., Hillside.
