Stephen Kilby Weber, 82, of Arlington Heights, Illinois, died peacefully on Saturday, April 12, 2025, of heart failure. Born April 28, 1942, to Eleanor (nee Kilby) and George Weber, Steve was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. When he was just 12, Steve, his older brother and younger sister lost their mother to cancer. Their stepmother, “Tilly,” then became a treasured member of the family. An excellent student with wide-ranging intellectual interests, Steve earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in history from the University of Cincinnati. In 1967, he married Charlotte Lackman, his wife of 57 years and mother of their children.
After Steve and Charlotte moved to the Chicago area, Steve worked at renowned advertising firm Leo Burnett from 1968 to 1979, first in research and then in the law department while pursuing a law degree. He earned a J.D. from Loyola University in 1976. As a corporate attorney, Steve served both Quasar Company (1979-1984) and Zenith Electronics Corporation (1984-1997), specializing in commercial transactions, business litigation, regulation and anti-trust matters. He finished out his legal career at Motorola in Schaumburg.
Always a huge sports fan, Steve’s greatest joy was in supporting the athletic pursuits of his children by coaching their soccer and basketball teams. In recent years, he especially enjoyed watching his young granddaughters begin to play sports. And if you watched a play-off game with Steve, you could be sure the stats of both teams and all the top players would easily roll off his tongue!
Steve is survived by his wife, Charlotte Weber; son Michael (Ansley Scott) Weber, daughter Kathleen “Katie” (Wilson Bull) Weber, granddaughters Madeleine and Everley Weber, sister Nancy (Robert) Wigington, sister-in-law Christine Leigh-Taylor, and many nieces and nephews proud to call him uncle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor and George Weber, stepmother Matilda “Tilly” Willis Weber, and brother David Weber.
