Suzanne (Sue) Lee Becker, 86, of Prospect Heights, was born January 14, 1939 in Burlington, WI to the late Ellis and Evelyn (Clark) Richmond and passed away July 27, 2025. Sue was the beloved wife of David Charles Becker who proceeded her in death on April 7, 2011. She was the loving mother of Kathryn Brook (Anthony) Becker-Cummins and Wendy Sue (Alex) Abate, and cherished grandmother of Alex, Nicholas and Anthony Abate as well as Jordan, Jacob, Nate and Wyatt Cummins. Sue was preceded in death by her siblings Ruth (Tutt) Richmond, Jeanette (Curtis) Richmond, Violet (Shake) Richmond, Kenneth Richmond, Leola (Gruling) Richmond and Jack Richmond, and her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Sue graduated from Waukesha High School, in Waukesha, WI in May of 1957 and then attained her diploma in nursing in 1960 from Evanston Hospital School of Nursing including specialty certifications in psychiatric and pediatric care. She went on to work at Evanston Hospital becoming a head nurse in 1964. Sue and Dave were married on June 26, 1965 in Burlington, WI. Sue continued her nursing career until she took a respite to raise her two children, Kathryn and Wendy, going back to nursing in assisted living and retirement communities in the Illinois Valley when her children were older.
In her younger years, Sue played the accordion and loved swimming, playing on the farm, riding her bike, roller-skating, berry-picking with her Mom, and going on adventures with her older siblings. Later, Sue was a devoted Wife and Mother and became actively involved in her community and church. She enjoyed family ski trips and she never missed her daughters’ events - band concerts, school plays, and softball games. She was active in the “Red Hats Club” and vacationed with her friends from nursing school. She also enjoyed spending time with Kodi, her and Dave’s Alaskan Malamute. After Kodi’s passing, she helped Dave, rescue and rehabilitate dogs, with the Illinois Alaskan Malamute Rescue Association and local shelters.
In her later years, Sue and Harley, her golden lab, moved to Rob Roy Country Club. They were known as regulars on the walking paths, Harley alongside Sue on her scooter. She made new friends and especially enjoyed spending time in the swimming pools. Sue became a grandma in 2011 and from then on was known only as Grandma Sue or “G-Sue”. Her greatest gift in life was her grandchildren who she loved dearly. She often vacationed with family to Florida and Hawaii. She also found happiness in the little things like sewing, cooking, baking, reading and playing cards as well as reuniting with her extended family at the yearly Richmond Family Reunion. She was always smiling and laughing and bringing joy to her family. She embraced life every day and always had stories to tell which she shared by writing a book entitled, “A Collection of Life Stories”. The time we had with her was such a blessing. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
