Thomas I. Corcoran, born on March 20, 1943, in Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, in Arlington Heights, IL. He was a beloved son, husband, brother, uncle, and godfather, cherished by his family and respected by his community. Thomas was the son of the late Irvin and Frances Corcoran, and the loving husband of 53 years to Irene Corcoran. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Corcoran Cardinal, and is survived by his treasured nieces, nephews, and godson.
After graduating from Benedictine University, where he formed lifelong friendships, Thomas dedicated himself to a life of service. As an Air Force Veteran, he demonstrated his commitment to his country with honor and distinction. His sense of duty extended to his spiritual life as well; in 1994, he was ordained as a deacon, serving his parish and community with unwavering faith and kindness. He married and baptized many, touching lives with his wisdom and compassion.
Thomas's dedication to his faith was further exemplified through his involvement with St. Raymond's youth group as a Branches Leader and his active membership in the Knights of Columbus Catholic Fraternal Organization. His commitment to service and his community was a beacon of light to those around him.
A man of many interests, Thomas found joy in the arts, particularly in opera and classical music. He enjoyed playing the piano. He was also an avid reader, often found engrossed in classic first edition books. His love for Notre Dame Fighting Irish football was well-known, and he enjoyed sharing this passion with friends and family during the season. Thomas was a social butterfly who loved gatherings and parties, always bringing warmth and laughter to any occasion.
Thomas was a gifted writer who contributed articles to the Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church bulletin, known affectionately as the "Deacon's Beacon." His words provided guidance, comfort, and inspiration to his readers, and his voice will be deeply missed within the parish community.
Above all, Thomas was a family man, deeply devoted to his loved ones. He was a cherished uncle to Beverly (James) Simmons, Juliann (Laurence) Ossler, the late William (Katie) Cardinal, Timothy (Stacey) Goraj, Linda (Mark) Kozma, and Carolyn Goraj. As a godfather, he held a special place in the heart of Jacob John Ossler, guiding him with love and wisdom.
Thomas I. Corcoran lived a life full of purpose and love. His legacy is one of devotion to faith, country, and family. His gentle spirit and generous heart have left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be remembered not only for the many lives he touched but also for the grace and dignity with which he lived his own. Though he has left this earthly realm, his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the memories of his beloved family and friends.
