Timothy R. Samson Sr. was born December 2, 1944, in Chicago to Joseph and Marian (née Reiter) Samson. He died April 3, 2023, at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, surrounded by his wife and children.
Tim, the oldest of nine children, grew up on Byron Street in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Saint Patrick High School, where he was an active member of the glee club and the swim team. Tim worked as a lifeguard at Oak Street Beach while getting around town on his motorcycle. He received his bachelor's degree from St. Mary's College in Winona, Minnesota, where he studied mathematics, played cards, and traveled with the Men's Chorus.
Tim met the love of his life, Eileen, while working at United Airlines in Elk Grove Village and were married in St. Louis, Missouri. They lovingly raised three children in Mount Prospect, Illinois where Tim was active at St Raymond Parish as a CCD teacher and member of the Sunday Mass guitar group.
Tim was an IT consultant for over forty years. In his retirement, he earned a certificate in horticulture from Harper College, volunteered at Rainbow Hospice, and was a regular patron of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Tim enjoyed gardening, reading, singing, crossword puzzles, and Christmas with the extended Samson family. His greatest joys were his grandchildren. Tim attended every baseball game, band and orchestra concert, swim meet, gymnastics competition, and hockey game that he could. He was, reliably, the most invested fan in the stands. Tim and Eileen had the blessing of watching their grandchildren grow into adulthood. They had a standing brunch date every weekend with their grandkids.
Tim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eileen M. (née Greenway); his children, Patrick (Amy Simon), Timothy Jr. (Berna), Katherine (Michael) Alarcon; his grandchildren, Brendan, Isabelle, Nathaniel, Jacob, Jack, Nicholas; his siblings, Annette (Jim) Marshall, Cathy Nolan, Joseph (Michael Hillgamyer), Patricia (Armen) Kotscharjan, Michael (Lynae), Thomas, David (Anne Harris); his sister-in-law Pamela; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Tim is preceded in death by his brother Robert, brother-in-law James Nolan, and by his parents.
Tim will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
