

William J. (Bill) Schell Jr., of Minocqua, WI, formerly Prospect Heights and Barrington was born on August 3, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to William J. Schell Sr. and Margaret Rose (nee Ford) Schell. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 4, 2014 at the age of 91. Bill had a love for all sports but especially football, which he both played and spectated with vigor.Bill graduated from Carl Schurz High School in Chicago and later proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married the love of his life Dolores (nee Schram) on August 24, 1946 and they went on to raise seven children together in Prospect Heights, Arlington Heights, and then in Barrington, Illinois.He started his career at Transo Envelope which became Arvey Corporation. His engaging personality and fascination with machines led him into machine tool sales in the 1960"s, a field that employed him until his retirement in 1989.Bill was involved in various sporting and religious organizations in Prospect Heights and Arlington Heights including Arlington Heights Boys Baseball League, Arlington High School Boosters, St. Alphonsus and St. James Catholic Churches.After his retirement he and Dolores moved to the Northwoods of Wisconsin and he found a passion for service to his fellow man, volunteering for many organizations including, the Boulder Junction Lions Club, Boulder Junction Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion where he served as Vice Commander and Commander. In 2001 he was named "Citizen of the Year" by the Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce. Bills jovial personality and larger than life presence made him a strong advocate for the senior citizens of northern Wisconsin.Bill enjoyed watching his grandchildren"s activities and took great pride in their accomplishments. He was also an usher and "greeter" at Sunday Mass at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Manitowish Waters for many years, a role that came very easily to him. Most recently he was a communicant of the Community Church of Boulder Junction, Wisconsin where he was very involved in the men"s bible study group.Bill is survived by his children William J. III (Barbara Sinning), Patricia A. (Kenneth) Miely, Nancy M. (Douglas) Everhart, Ward J. (Mary), L. Michael (Jeanne), Martin F. and Patrick J. (Brian Tkac); his 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and his beloved sister Ann Hornof.He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores (in 2003), his parents, and his infant brother, James.Memorial Service is at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the Community Church of Boulder Junction, 10445 Main St, Boulder Junction, WI, where his family will receive guests from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.Memorial contributions may be made to the Boulder Junction Lions Club, Winegar American Legion Post #480, Boulder Junction Library or to the Community Church of Boulder Junction.Funeral information and condolences www.GlueckertFH.com or (847) 253-0168.
