Albert Jimmy Owens, 71, passed away Friday May 21, 2021, at Medical City Hospital in Arlington, Texas, following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sylvana; daughter, Erinn; daughter, Erica; granddaughter, Alexandra; son, Steven Finley; cousins Joshua and Carlos Perry, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Josephine; an aunt and uncle, Minnie and “Twit” Finley; an aunt, Charity McElroy; a half-brother, Larry Owens and a son, Anthony Owens.
An accounting graduate of Sawyer College of Business and Oil Belt Technical College, he maintained a 4.0 GPA, graduating with honors. A gifted athlete, he excelled in basketball and football. He was also gifted in music, playing the piano from an early age.
He began his career with AT&T in the mailroom, working his way up to Repairman. His work journey also included real estate and business ventures.
He truly wanted to change the world, starting with America and never gave up trying. One thing is certain…Albert Jimmy Owens lived and died “his way”. This often did not sit well with his family and others around him, but it was who he was…a loner who held fiercely to his own convictions. But like many of us in our later years, he had regrets. Things he wished he had done differently. And he often expressed this in the last few years of his life.
But he was very much loved and will be greatly missed.
