

Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday at Woods Chapel Baptist Church, 2424 California Lane. Interment: Tate Cemetery on W. Pleasant Ridge Road following the service. Visitation: Will follow interment at Woods Chapel in Fellowship Hall.
Glen was born in Tulia, Swisher County, April 6, 1937. He grew up on his parent's farm east of Tulia. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1955 and attended Texas Tech University, earning a B.S. degree in math and physics in 1960. Glen met Nell Hogg in March 1960 and they were married September 1960. They moved first to Grand Prairie and then to Arlington in 1961 were they have lived for 50 years. Glen was employed by Chance Vought Aircraft (LTV, Loral Vought now Lockheed Martin) for 33 years retiring in 1994.
Glen was a member and active deacon of Woods Chapel Baptist Church. Soon after retirement he became the deacon in charge of Benevolence Ministry. He continued with that activity until his illness was diagnosed in April 2010. Glen was a talented whistler; his favorite song was "Amazing Grace." He also had a passion for ham radio, gardening and Corvairs.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jennifer Herring, age 15, by a few days; and his parents, Charles Thadeous Herring and Mamie Lena Wimberly Herring.
Survivors: Glen will be remembered by his wife, Nell Hogg Herring; daughter and husband, Cheryl and Tuck Steelman; son and wife, Thaddeus Glen and Laura; and grandchildren, Samantha Steelman, Charles Anthony Herring, John Paul Locklear. He is also survived by: a sister, Edith Johnson of Childress; brothers, Robert of Elm Mott and John of Tulia; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
