

Donald Joseph Shackel, age 91 of Arlington Texas, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2021. He was born on September 19, 1930, in Ahmeek, Michigan, the son of Joseph Thomas Shackel and Anne Magdalina Malerich Shackel. Donald married Margaret Ann Dakoske in September of 1953. They celebrated 67 years of marriage together before her passing on February 16, 2020.
Don was a solid family man who openly loved and consistently supported his wife and five children. He grew up in Michigan and attended Wayne State University in Detroit, receiving his Electrical Engineering degree. Don proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He continued his love for technology and engineering working at: LTV Aerospace, Loral, and finally Lockheed-Martin where he retired as Director of Logistics. Don enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, cruises, and tinkering with automobiles, repairing all forms of electronics, and building and maintaining computers. Don was known as the man in the neighborhood who could fix anything. He regularly offered his time, skills, and resources to selflessly assist others in need. He was a mentor and friend to many.
There will be a joint graveside service to celebrate the lives of Don and his wife Marge after the holidays, as soon as arrangements can be made to include family and friends from Texas and elsewhere.
Don is survived by his daughters Susan King, Barbara Shackel, Kathy Teichner and husband Jeff; son James Shackel and wife Jean; Craig and Melanie Lashley; grandchildren Lauren Gonzalez, David Teichner, Natalie King, Hunter King, Dylan West, Courtney Small, Heather Bland, Micah Shackel-Dickens, Laine Krysl, Sydney Shackel, Chelsea Shackel; great grandchildren Lucas Gonzalez, Gage Gonzalez, Quinn Gonzalez, Emerson Small, Lincoln Bland, Brynley Bland, and Cohen Small.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margaret, son Donald Gerard Shackel, and grandson Jason Teichner.
