Doris Holmes Pybus

Doris Holmes Pybus finished life's journey on Monday, August 1, 2022, at the age of 79. She lived a full life filled with love. Doris was born on October 20, 1942, to William Henry Holmes and Inger (Rasmussen) Holmes in Brooklyn, NY. She was the older sister to Alice (Holmes) Delambre and William Henry Holmes III.

Doris's father was in the Army, and the family moved depending on his assignment, including living in Taiwan. As Doris began her teenage years, the family settled in San Antonio, TX. She attended Robert E. Lee High School, where she participated in many clubs and was the valedictorian of her graduating class. Doris began her collegiate studies at San Antonio College, pursuing a major in English and a minor in history. She transferred to Southwest Texas State University, where she met and began dating Craig Russell Pybus. While Craig was serving in the Air Force, Doris taught high school English.

Craig and Doris married in San Antonio, TX, on August 25, 1967. Craig was still serving in the Air Force, and they moved several times. On September 18, 1970, they welcomed their daughter Christine while stationed in Ohio. They later moved to Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, TX, where they welcomed their son Brad on June 8, 1974. In 1979, Craig left the Air Force, and they purchased a home in Arlington, TX.

Doris loved her husband and children and devoted her life to being a wife and mother to her family. Over the years, Doris was active in the Girl Scouts, volunteered her time at her church, and donated to charities close to her heart. Doris loved books, especially murder mysteries. She loved the beauty of nature. On nice days, Doris enjoyed gardening and planting colorful flowers. Doris enjoyed working on puzzles at her dining room table, listening to music, and shopping with the girls. She delighted in family gatherings with great food, games, and laughter. Spending time with her grandson Collin was priceless to her. Doris was generous, loving, patient, and self-sacrificing. She was a great listener, and you could always count on her to be there for you.

She is survived by her husband, Craig Russell Pybus; Daughter: Christine and husband, Dave Adams; Son: Brad and wife Gayla; Sister: Alice Delambre and Brother: William (Bill) Holmes and wife, Lynn; Grandson: Collin Pybus, as well as many extended family members, nieces, and nephews, and friends.

A memorial service for Doris will be held Saturday, August 13, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home, 4216 South Bowen Road, Arlington, TX 76016, followed by a reception from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
